"puzz"

The “puzz” is a fuzz pedal designed after Jimi Hendrix’s red Fuzz Face with white Jazzmaster knobs, used for a short period of time during the Band of Gypsys period (1969-1970). This pedal has the characteristic high frequency and rampant lows of the fuzz tone that can be heard in the Woodstock, Berkeley, and Fillmore East live performances.

Fuzz Pedals Trilogy

I am planning to release three types of fuzz pedals that I have further developed and evolved, while maintaining the characteristics and special tones of my own fuzz pedals. This pedal will be the second of the trilogy. The “puzz” was designed based on Cashew Nuts FUZZ - Gypsy Style -.

Red Fuzz Face with white Jazzmaster knobs

The exact circuit diagram and details of the red Fuzz Face used by Jimi Hendrix unknown. Many brands such as Roger Mayer, Dunlop, and KR Musical Products have sold pedals based on the red Fuzz Face. However, the circuitry is different from brand to brand, and each brand produces pedals with their own interpretations and ideas. It is very interesting to note that, even though the pedals are from the same lineage, there are considerable differences in the tones reproduced by each brand. And “puzz” also has its own Lemon & Ginger interpretation and essence.
Some may think the red Fuzz Face is difficult to use, because it is not a common pedal. But, in fact, it is a very easy to use fuzz pedal. It allows you to create so many tones with just the two knobs on the pedal, or a variable volume control on your guitar.
If you are a fuzz pedal enthusiast, you will find the “puzz” to be the most versatile fuzz pedal available.

Features

You can create a wider range of tones than a normal Fuzz Face, including clean, crunch, overdrive, and fuzz tones, simply by controlling the guitar's volume.
This fuzz-oriented pedal tends to have too much bass tone. The “puzz” was designed to have a solid low end, but not too much. I also designed it to prevent the loss of high frequencies when the volume of the pedal is turned down.

Enclosure

The distinctive design of the jack section of this pedal is not only attractive, but also practical. It provides more space at the top of the pedal, and keeps the switch and knobs apart, which reduces the possibility of nudging the controls when you step on the switch.  By tucking the jacks inside, I was also able to make the pedal more compact. Depending on the pedal board you use, you can drop the wires down and send the cables to the back of the board.
